So we disagree, Bob. That's what makes the world go round.
First, this world you prefer to live in was once upon a time nothing
more than a dream. If it had not been for Dreamers, we would still be
living under some King or Despot, trembling whenever the Kings
soldiers came to take what the King wanted.
So if you don't like my use of Oligarchy, give me some alternatives
that pleases you more. I call it that because this nation was the
product of some very bright White Men, Landowners who were tired of
having the Kings soldiers take away whatever the King wanted. But
these White Men did not trust what they considered the Riff Raff,
those men who were in the hire of the Landed Gentry. Negroes and
Indians were not to be trusted in the running of the new government.
Nor were women...of any color. Included later on to the ranks of the
excluded were Chinese, Japanese and Mexicans. That left White Men
over 21 years of age, Landholders or possessors of substantial wealth.
In brief, an Oligarchy, a government of the privileged few, ruling
over the rest of the people. Despite all the changes, this government
still serves the Wealthy descendants of those original
Revolutionaries, above the needs of the Masses.
While I have read smatterings of Karl Marx, my favorite mentor is
Howard Zinn. His history book, A People's History of the United
States, clearly lays out how this nation came to be what it is today.
Finally Bob, I too am living in the "real" world. But one thing I
have that you appear not to have are my dreams. I can live here, and
I can still dream of a better life for all mankind. And I can dream
that we Humans have the collective knowledge to maintain Planet Earth
as our Garden of Eden.

Hi Bob Hachey and List.
I guess I missed the question regarding what sort of government I
would propose, but over a period of months I thought my views were
fairly clear. My vision is one that will never happen in the life
time of anyone on this list. But being out of reach does not make it
unworthy of our efforts to reach for that beautiful brass ring. A
World where all People are united. No little warring nations. But
yet, a World where each person is able to live as they choose, so long
as it does not force others to join in. A World where we can respect
each others differences. A World where, despite our differences, we
work together to solve the needs of those who still struggle to exist.
A World where People of All Faiths, and People of No Faith can accept
one another without feeling threatened. A World in which we celebrate
the achievements of our fellow Humans by honoring their names, not by
making them financially rich, because we all will have our needs met.
A World where our values become focused on how we serve one another,
rather than upon how much material stuff we can make off with. A
World in which the well being of all Life is important to the well
being of everyone and every thing. A World free of Fear, Hunger and
Want. A World whose Leaders are those who care most for the needs of
All, and who spend their time improving Life on the entire Planet. A
World that no longer understands words like, "My Property", because we
all have the Right to Everything.
But we will not see anything approaching a One World People. Our
minds are conditioned to think of amassing material wealth as the sign
of success. Moving to different values will be a very slow and very
painful process.
Imagine, instead of dreaming of fabulous wealth and the power it
brings, think instead of the satisfaction of being part of those who
put an end to hunger, or put an end to war, or teaching little
children to respect themselves and those around them...including the
cat in the corner. We would still teach people to question, and to
create. What we would change would be how we reward one another.
I don't think of such a dream as being foolish, nor do I think it is
communism or socialism, any more than our present form of government.
Our current government has strong aspects of socialism. Our military
might is built on our collective support. Our police forces and fire
departments are put in place through our collective agreement. Think
of all the other ways we "share" together in order to have the sort of
life we now have. What is alien to this cooperative behavior is
Greed, or what we call Capitalism. Capitalism is built on
exploitation of others. You will work for me and I will take the
results of your labor and give you a small portion back. What if our
fire department worked that way? "We'll put out your fire, but in
return we will take nine tenths of your property". You say this could
not happen? We used to educate our children free, or nearly free,
believing that the more educated the next generation became, the
greater our nation would become. But now Capitalism and Greed have
moved in. Yes, your child will receive a good education, in fact, the
best education your money can buy. Capitalism encourages each of us
to plot ways of "cashing in". Not what is good for mankind, but
rather, what is good for me. We used to call them the "I'm for me
First" Party. Today they are Libertarians
We have come a long way from the days when our neighbors gathered at
our farm and together raised a new barn, knowing that you would be
there when they had a need. Where did we take a wrong turn on Life's
Road?

Re: [blind-democracy] Re: Christian Zionism, the modern herecy and assuring true peace callers
Good Wednesday Morning to All Who Survived 2017.
Bob, I sent you some information and suggestions under a separate
post. Hope it helps. If not, write me off-list and I can connect you
with several folks in the Seattle Deaf Blind community.
***
Bob wrote: "I endorse Hamas because it is the only courageous militant
element that
engages against Israeli invaders."
A straightforward statement. And of course it is intended to convey
strong resolve by a courageous People.
But if we change the names, we might say, "I
endorse White Supremacy because it is the only courageous militant element that
engages Satan's invaders.
Or we might say, "I
endorse the National Federation of the Blind, because it is the only
courageous militant element that engages against ignorant sighted
workers for the blind."
What I am suggesting is that Bob's words, intended to send a message
of strong conviction and fearless willingness to aggressively defend
his beliefs, will only create an identical statement from the
opponents. Show me where in all of Man's History, where such a bold
statement caused Peace to break out? The only option remaining to the
opponent is to save face by sounding equally brave and resolved.
These are the words of Warriors, not Peace Makers. And the
interesting thing is that as brave as these words appear, they are the
words of cowards. Think about it. Rising up above the war cries to
promote peaceful negotiations takes far more courage than does the act
of arming ones self.
If we were only able to rise above national boundaries, religious
differences, and physical differences, and look to those attributes we
share in common, and begin to work to solve those needs faced by
people everywhere, we just might see signs of Peace on the horizon.
But we are so spell bound, so conditioned by our various Masters, that
we build walls against those people we should be embracing. Bob says
he and I will never agree. He has implied in the past that this is
because I do not understand Truth, as Bob knows it to be.
But rather than telling Bob that one of us is Right and one of us is
Wrong, I can agree that both of us are right, in so far as our
individual beliefs meets our individual needs...just as long as we can
resist pushing our beliefs on the other. It makes no difference to me
if Bob and Allah are on first name terms, and Bob will live eternally
in the Here After. And it should not matter to Bob if I believe that
my contribution is in the Here and Now, and that I have no belief in a
Here After. I can sit and listen to Bob's explanation, and share mine
without either of us feeling the need to change our basic beliefs. I
may tell Bob that in my mind there are no Absolutes other than Death.
Bob may tell me something different. And then I might look at my
watch and suggest that I buy Bob dinner.

Re: [blind-democracy] Re: Christian Zionism, the modern herecy and assuring true peace callers
I'm not so sure that throwing stones at tanks and throwing tanks with
stones means nearly the same thing. If children are throwing tanks with
stones I don't know whether to picture throwing stones and tanks side by
side or to picture children using stones as a tank throwing device.
Either way it is a good deal more funny than throwing the stones at the
tanks. At least that way I don't have to wonder if it really means
throwing tanks at the stones.

Re: [blind-democracy] Re: Christian Zionism, the modern herecy and assuring true peace callers
Alright, whether throwing stones at tanks or throwing tanks with
stones, the meaning is nearly the same. To get out of this, thank you
for the suggestion, though both sentential structures are fairly
correct. Despite this idiotic debate, it seems that seeing children
throwing stones at tanks is somewhat satisfactory. Carl, I commend
your courteous remarks, but we unfortunately, won't ever agree. Jason,
I do not give credit to any Arab state. They are fainthearted,
dampened, westernly influenced, secularised and civilly defeated. I
endorse Hamas because it is the only courageous militant element that
engages against Israeli invaders. As for the remaining threads, I'll
dispose them for lacking significance. As I plainly stated, I'll
conveniently dismiss attempts of imperialism, intervension or cultural
manipulation. I am quite confident and contented with my identity. Why
do I have to be a traitor or a confused person who poses nonmeaningful
questions? Why should I waste my time doing this? Because someone in
the west strenuously strives to strangle my identity and then, coerce
my frustrated entity into a distorted copy of his culture. I chose to
subscribe to this list with a pseudonym. I previously outlined my
justifications for that. I could be named Bob, but I won't be the
Texan guy in character. I eat western food. I wear western clothe.
But, I won't buy western thoughts. For the benefit of our children
here, I rather would collaborate with respectful people abroad. To
make this a positive outcome, I need someone to help me with the
following. I recently began to teach sightless children who
communicate gesturally. I am tasked with teaching them elementary
Braille. Now, I am genuinely bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to learn
sign language. But, I am afraid, I am not so sure how to do that
properly as a blind person. While I utterly recognise sign language
may substantially differ from culture to another, I want to make a
start on this. Note, these children need a different conception of
sign language. Ordinarily, sighted deaf people express themselves
through visible hand gestures. But, the ones I have just been involved
with are sightless and nonverbal simultaneously. I am desperate to
interact with them. I randomly attempt to fathom their perceptions.
However, I demand to be competent. Kindly, if someone knows anything
about this, I'll be grateful if he guided me to where I shall begin.
You may forward this post to anyone who is able to help me achieving
my objective. Furthermore, has Braille ever been taught to sightless
and nonverbal children? Do you know any certified curriculum to rely
on? If someone destines to respond to this thread, please, stick to
the crucial segment and dismiss what is above. It begins with, "To
make this". Cordially, Bob Evans.

And you might ask this. Does he really think that if he had been born in
Salt Lake City, Utah that it would have ever entered his mind to study
Islamic theology?

Re: [blind-democracy] Christian Zionism, the modern herecy and assuring true peace callers
Greetings and Hope for a Positive New Year for all working class
brothers and sisters the World Around.

Like Bob Evans, many of us believe ourselves to be reasonable people,
and arrive at our present beliefs by processing the information
available to us. In Rehab we called it, "Informed Choice". But in
the real world it is no choice at all. It is a conclusion brought
about by our social norms and the teachings allowed by our particular
Ruling Class.
We do not want to believe that our minds have been so controlled as to
make Free Choice impossible.
All of us have been conditioned by our culture, our parents and close
family, our Faith, our Peers, and how we process all of this
"information". To believe that we were not affected by the World we
live in is to suggest that we are "God-like". Donald Trump is such a
person. If he tells us that the Media gives us False News, then that
is what it is, because Donald Trump has stepped away from the
influences that shape most of us. Donald Trump has placed himself in
a very small group of individuals. They include the likes of Joseph
Stalin, Adolph Hitler, Joseph Smith,Jr., Charles Manson, and the
countless Royalty that has oppressed Mankind down through the
centuries. All are products of their culture. And all believe
themselves to have either risen above the Masses, or been anointed
. There is probably no "happy ending" to this story of Mankind, but
still we must try to bring about a peaceful conclusion. To do nothing
will seal our doom. Until we can live as One People, agreeing to
accept each others differences while not attempting to force our
beliefs onto others, and tackling together the most pressing threat to
our existence, the destruction of Life on Planet Earth, we stand face
to face with our own self inflicted extinction.
