Upon the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez yesterday, President Evo Morales of Bolivia said "Chavez will continue to be an inspiration for all peoples who fight for their liberation." Indeed, the seeds he planted for an outbreak of democracy in Latin America with his Bolivarian revolution will continue to bloom with freedom for oppressed peoples who have been under the boot of Empire fascism for so long.
Scanning the mass media this morning there appears to be joy by the ruling Forces of Greed in the Empire-- the oligarchs of Venezuela and the US government, still spreading lies about Chavez even before his body is cold. Mass media reports call him a dictator, for example, when he was elected with greater majorities than American presidents in elections much fairer than rigged elections in the USA. They report that Chavez controlled the media in Venezuela, when in fact most of that media are in the hands of Venezuelan oligarchs, just as American media are in the hands of transnational corporations that don't give a damn about the American people or the public interest.
In tribute to Chavez, Greg Palast is offering his film "The Assassination of Hugo Chavez" as a free download this morning, containing a great many facts you will not get from the controlled mainstream media.
Cindy Sheehan wrote a beautiful tribute to Hugo, ending that "the struggle continues until victory."
"We do not inherit the land from
our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
