Need a reason to celebrate today? It's the 800th birthday of Magna
Carta. I believe, but don't quote me, that Magna Carta was the great,
many times removed, grandma of Jimmy Carta, former US president.
Anyhow they say it happened on this day back in 1215. I'd need to
check to see if the calendar adjustment messes up this date, or not.
But at least the 800 years is a good indication of just how long a
nearly forgotten document can be preserved. The Magna Carta and the
Dead Sea Scrolls. Perhaps someone might convince President Barak
Obama to read through this old manuscript. So much of what he has
been undermining was based on these declarations. Can we say, "Habius
Corpus"?
So head on out to your local pub and raise a Pint to the Grand Old
Magna Carta...may she rest in peace.
