Clifford and List,
By the same token, we would have to say that when the check we depend upon
comes from a private corporation, we are just as wary about biting that
hand, too.
In my long and not so glamorous career, I have worked for both the private
sector and the Government.
I was with a drapery company for 8 years, and with the state for 17 years,
and working for myself for 19 years, and counting.
Working for myself still means depending on the state to contract with my
Program, so I'm as dependent on the government as when I was an actual state
employee. In all instances I was controlled by the folks who paid me, and
expected certain activities and loyalties for their money.

But in that wonderful world of make believe, the people form a government to
uphold their(the people's) values. That government is only big enough to
control the behavior of the private companies. The two should serve
different functions. The private companies bottom line is profit. The
government's bottom line is the well being of its people. Keeping a
balance between two very distinct differences is a real tug-of-war. In my
opinion, we are currently looking at a bloated, inept government being
dragged along by an ever expanding Corporate Empire.
When I say an inept government, I mean in so far as dealing with the
American People's needs. This bloated monster of a government is serving
the needs of the Empire very nicely, thank you.
Just my Working Class, Blind Man, Radical opinion.

Dear List Members:
I find it amusing that such programs as, the unearned tax credit,
available to low income workers with families, the A. D. A, which was
designed to stop discrimination across the board against disabled people are
trotted out as liberal causes, when both were signed by Republican
presidents, Reagan and Bush respectively. The Unearned income tax credit
was designed to encourage workers to hang in there and to stimulate the
economy, not to kill low wage earners. If this program were ended today,
there would be a hue and cry across the land.
The claim that conservatives want poorer folks to die is a reflection
of the politicians who desire to keep voters dependent on them and the
government so that when election comes around the politician will be kept
in office and thereby retain the power he or she has. Should our economy
improve to the point that jobs are available to those who wish to work, that
would set many free to choose their elected representatives on their
intelligence, honesty, and their ability to plan for the future of our
country. When the food you eat and the energy used by you are there because
of a monthly check from the state or federal government, one becomes afraid
to bite the hand that feeds them.

Yours Truly,

Clifford Wilson
