to vote or not to vote, is that the question?

As I just wrote in a previous note entitled, "to vote or not to vote, is that the question:", I suggest that our problems begin long before we head for the polls.  Shouldn't it tell us something important when the very people who should be voting are not turning out?  What do we think, that they're all a bunch of stupid, brainless slobs?  Well, too often that is exactly how we dismiss them.
But perhaps many of our citizens see themselves as David facing Goliath, only without a sling.  Like weighing 120 pounds and rushing the line of guys tipping in at 310 each.  Or standing 4 feet 11 inches and trotting out onto the Celtics court.  They understand that no matter what they do, they are already beat.  That's the mentality we have allowed to develop among our poorest citizens.  Then we turn on them and demand that they vote, as if they could make it to the basket and score two points.
No my friends, we've got to get back to the root of the problem and get things changed long before we head for the voting booth.
