more on money and sports

One last thought on the subject of the corruption of sports by Greed.
Why don't we tax payers put our money into building blocks of low income housing with shopping and medical and educational centers included, and then lease them out to corporations to operate on a "for profit" bases?
The reason is that we know if we did that, these greedy SOB's would drive prices up to where the intended recipients of the services could no longer afford the services.
So why do we allow them to get a choke hold on our sporting facilities?

Subject: [acb-chat] sports stadiums

I am generally against government paying for sports stadiums, but here is
the kicker.  teams want a new one every few decades.

I think that if one is built, it should be done to last at least a century.
It may have to be upgraded, but not rebuilt from the ground up.

Two examples:  The Reds played in Crossley Field.  During the 60s,
Riverfront Stadium was built.  A few years ago, the Great American Ballpark
was built.

In St. Louis, they had the old Busch Stadium, Busch Memorial Stadium, and
now, another Busch Stadium.  Why can't they build something to last?  I
think that is a virtue of Europe over this country.
