We're "dumbing down" our once strong unions.  But there again, workers handed off their responsibilities to elected officials, and failed to keep an eye on them.

There are two big articles in the December issue of the Atlantic. NPR
actually referred to one of them this evening. They are both about
corporations bringing jobs back to the U.S. The first one, regarding GE, is
the one that NPR mentioned today. The article was rather encouraging,
especially if you aren't bothered by the fact that the union, in order to
get jobs back here, agreed to the infamous two tier system which condemns
new workers to a different, lower wage scale than previous workers. They've
lost, if I remember correctly, $8.50 an hour for their starting salary. The
second article is by James Fallows, about jobs returning from China.
