What Did They Do To Deserve This

Now let us all rise and sing, "God Bless America."

Subject: What Did They Do To Deserve This

In 2005, Debbie Clark, an eight-year veteran of the military police
and US Army Criminal Investigation Command, found herself under surveillance
by the Department of Defense. Debbie had been honorably discharged in order
to become a full-time mother while her husband remained on active duty. Why
did the Pentagon find this law-abiding mother, military wife, and veteran so
threatening as to secretly monitor her activities?

Because she is a peace activist.

On Thanksgiving Day 2011, eight elite high school students headed to a
prestigious conference in Washington, DC, were escorted off their plane,
interrogated, and searched by the Transportation Security Administration.
After detaining them for five hours, the TSA determined that they posed no
threat whatsoever and allowed them to continue to Washington. Why did the
TSA subject these students to a five-hour interrogation and detention?

Because they were from the United Arab Emirates.

In 2008, Mark Lyttle, a mentally disabled US citizen born in North
Carolina, was deported. Despite making sworn statements declaring that he is
a US citizen, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement refused to believe him—or
even check into records that would have confirmed his citizenship—and
instead summarily deported him. Why were Mark's rights as a citizen ignored?

Because he is of Mexican heritage.

Sadly, these are just three among many, many similar examples of our
government profiling law-abiding Americans because of their race, ethnicity,
religion, national origin, or political views.
