Subject: Re: The Crisis of American Self-Government
We were taught that WW II was "the good war".
But as I say, we, White Protestant America, used the Jews as our buffer in the Middle East. But of course, we were taught that we gave the Jews their home back, out of our great Christian love.
After the War, people said, "Such atrocities as the Nazi's did to the Jews can never happen again". Like Hell. We learned nothing because we were not fighting for people, we were fighting, even back then, for the growing Empire's interests.
Also, I differ with those who say our American Empire began with our victories over Spain. From the day we proclaimed ourselves a Sovereign Nation, we have been building our American Empire, murdering Indians, Mexicans, Blacks, Asians and anyone else who stood in our Westward march. I truly believe that the Empire is now beyond the control of any nation, or collection of nations. It is the International Corporate Empire. The Roman Empire is small potatoes by comparison. Will the Empire rule a thousand years? Not if it continues devouring all the natural resources.

Of course, that may very well have been a motive. But when I think about all
that I've read, fiction and non fiction, it is apparent that so many Jews
were desperately trying to leave Germany, and then, Europe, as Hitler's
plans for them progressed. And what countries could have done, particularly
the U.S., was to open their borders to all these fleeing Jews. Aside from a
few Latin American countries, everyone did precisely the opposite. People
forget how much anti-semitism still existed in the U.S. before, during, and
even after World War 2. The director of our Immigration Service was hell
bent to keep Jews out of the country. There's even a PBS documentary about
that period of history which describes U.S. immigration policy. And there
was that ship, filled with Jews, sailing from country to country, never
allowed to land, which had to return to Germany where its passengers were
transferred to concentration camps. In one of Jan de Hartaag's books,
there's a description of a Quaker delegation which meets with the nazis and
purchases the release of Jews so they can leave Germany. So the Jews who
founded Israel and the ones who were born there, were adamant that this was
their safe place and that no one would mess with them again. In their rage
at what was done to the Jews, they became as ruthless as their enemies were
to them.

Miriam,
Absolutely correct. In addition I repeat that the motive behind the US
support of the creation of a New Israel was primarily based on the
understanding that following the War, we needed an outpost in the Oil Rich
Middle East.

The problem with Israel as a Jewish state is that Palestinians and
other
citizens who aren't Jewish, have a second class citizenship. They do
not
have rights, equal to those of Jewish citizens. The other problem is
that on
the day that Palestine was partitioned in order to construct a
Jewish
Israel, the Palestinians who had been living on that land for
generations,
were displaced so that there would be room for the European Jews who
emigrated there. The ones who were not displaced, received second
class
citizenship. So the more militant Palestinians want the right of
return to
their homes which, of course, will never be granted. Poor Helen
Thomas. This
is what she was trying to say and she was tossed out of her jobs as
journalist as a result because no one in the public eye in the U.S.
is
allowed to say it out loud. Given what had been done to the Jews by
Hitler
with the world's acquiecance, everyone apparently agreed that it was
OK to
sacrifice the Palestinians who lived where the Jews wanted a Jewish
state.
Additionally, most of the Israeli Jewish population is secular.
However, the
country is run on the basis of Orthodox jewish law. Religions
Orthdox Jews
have a great deal of power and actually have more privileges than
other
Jewish citizens.
