It's a real conundrum. 

Just how do we change negative public attitudes when we are busy trying to "Pass" for sighted people?  We are as impacted by the unspoken beliefs about blindness as our sighted peers. 

Visually Impaired folks are busy denying that they are blind.  Legally blind folks want to be Partially Sighted.  And us truly, honest to God totally blind are running about trying to act, "sighted". 

If the problem were only with the word Blind, then we probably should make up a new term.  One that we can all agree upon.  One that includes all degrees of vision loss and makes it sound real cool. 

Now that's it!  The Cool People! 

"Hi, I'm a Cool guy!"  "We Cool People..." 

The story concerned the question, Can a Cool Man and a Cool Woman raise Uncool Children? 

The American Council of the Blind might become, The American Council of Cool People(ACCP). 

And what would the NFB do?  Well, after fighting it for years they would finally cave in and become the National Federation of Cool Blind Guys(NFBCBG). 

Our ACB president would be addressed as, Cool Man Mitch.
