Those were the good old days. The days when it was assumed that all people, blind and sighted alike were too dumb to figure out how to push an elevator button. It took special people with special training.
In the busy lobbies of down town Seattle office buildings and department stores, the elevator loader marched back and forth with a little clicker in her hand. She would tell each elevator operator when her car was full and ready to go, by clicking her castanets. They all wore uniforms, too. What a cool job! Riding up and down all day just waiting for that little click to let you know when to close your door and head on up. The power those loaders had! Wow! And they showed it, too. They had that superior look with their noses turned up and their shoulders held back like little tin generals. Real class. Yup, those were the good old days.
