we need to fight for quality public education

My misplaced frustrations caused me to initially believe that Charter Schools would offer an opportunity for new and innovative approaches to education.
But I came to understand that Charter Schools will undermine public education.  Money would be siphoned away from already under funded, under staffed and over worked systems.  It would further divide the affluent from the poor.  In fact this system is pretty much what we are looking at today.  The very wealthy put their children in well funded schools, fully staffed and equipped with the most modern teaching tools, while the majority of citizens send their children to over crowded ancient  and underequipped facilities.
What we need to do is to demand the same facilities, funding, staffing that the exclusive private schools are extending to their privileged students.  Either we demand high quality public education, and I mean all the way through college, or we dump the public school and let the folks who can afford to educate their children do so.  The rest of our kids can scrape out a living whoring, pimping and peddling drugs.  If we spent on our children the way we spend on our military we would have the most educated people in the world, just as we now have the most advanced military.
And that military machine also happens to be a public force, underwritten by our tax dollars.  These are the tax dollars that we are told cannot be found to build a quality educational system.  Of course there is a growing trend toward developing a private army, at a far greater expense than the public one.  Eventually this superior private force will be gathered around the Corporate Citizens for their private protection, at our expense, and the under paid, poorly equipped military will find that they are no match.
