School Daze

School Daze

The first question is, why do we educate our children?  Another question is, who decides what it is that we call education?
If you live in an environment where the need is greatest for production workers and soldiers, why would you want to spend tax dollars on "touchy feely" training.  You want young people who believe in the value of a strong military.  You need people who will keep accurate books, manage warehouses, build highways and towers.  You do not need, nor do you want people who discuss philosophical issues or explore new thought, or challenge your authority.
What our civilization calls, "Education" develops along the lines of what is good and necessary to maintain the folks in power.
What is interesting is that there exists a double standard for education.  The common man is encouraged to respect the three R's.  Yet the wealthy folks send their children to study such courses as philosophy.
