Greed cannot contain itself

History tells us that it is not only possible, but it is inevitable.  Greed cannot contain itself.  It is a cancer that consumes all in its path until it finally destroys itself.  Even the mighty eternal Roman Empire crashed and burned because it forgot to put back part of what it took. Even though our American Empire is more global and is far better armed and can brainwash the masses at the single touch of a dial, it is already in collapse.
While the Roman Empire lasted over 1,000 years, the American Empire will be lucky to make it to 150.  I count from the Spanish American War as the beginning of the Empire reaching out beyond its own boarders.  At our current pace we will have little left of our great nation by 2040.
Some of us will not be here, I'll be 105 years old and not worth much.  But we have the responsibility to teach those young people who come behind us.  It will be their job to pick up the pieces and create a better world.  But if we do not work hard, they will fall victim to the same stupidity that we and our parents and grandparents fell into.  We must teach them that greed is our enemy and has no place in our lives.  And we must teach them that the only outcome of war and violence is more war and violence.
We absolutely must teach them to be responsible for their actions, and to insist on being given the space to be their own person.  Most important, we must teach them to love themselves.  Without this they will never succeed.
