On blind brain surgeons
I can't think of a single blind medical student who went on to become a surgeon. A number of students went through medical school and became psychiatrists.
When I worked in the Orientation and Training Center, I recall debating with students over whether or not a blind person could teach O&M(cane travel). The great majority were convinced that sight was a prerequisite. Imagine the outcry if I'd asked them whether they'd allow a blind surgeon to open them up?
Hoo ee!!!
