Pandering to our vanity...or ignorance
Years ago I worked on the Seattle waterfront for a national drapery manufacturer, Bartmann and Bixer of the Northwest, Inc.
Along with making drapes, curtains and bed spreads, we sold bolts of yardage to the local department stores. I would grab a 100 yard bolt of drapery yardage and roll off 50 yards for Fredrick and Nelson and label it, "Sea Spray Elite".
The remaining 50 yards I would prepare for JC Penny and label it, "Surf Green Standard".
The difference was about twice the price per yard.
